Anotácia:

Nikde nie sú úspechy poľnohospodárskej technológie na Taiwane zjavnejšie ako v oblasti šľachtenia rastlín. V 60. rokoch zachránila nová odroda ryže s vysokou úrodou vyvinutá na Taiwane nespočetné množstvo ľudí v Ázii a Afrike pred hladom. Pestovatelia cukrovej trstiny mali taktiež prospech z úsilia šľachtiteľov rastlín, pričom produkcia tejto plodiny dosiahla v určitom období 36 tisíc ton denne. A úspech v oblasti šľachtenia kukurice pomohol rozvoju fariem na chov ošípaných a mliekarenských fariem na ostrove. Medzi ďalšie úspechy v oblasti šľachtenia rastlín patrí pestovanie teplomilných paradajok v subtropických oblastiach a novej odrody orchideí s kvetmi v tvare motýľa, ktoré kvitnú nielen v zime, ale počas celého roka. Súčasné úsilie v šľachtení rastlín sa zameriava na kultiváciu tkaniva na zvýšenie produkcie a ďalšie zlepšovanie vyhliadok poľnohospodárstva v Taiwane. .
